This blog is about the dissection we did yesterday. What we dissected was a cow eye which was really cool!
What we have been learning about is about parts the eyes.
There are:
cornea - The outer layer that protects the eye.
Pupil - This is where the lights enter.
Iris - The Iris controls how much light comes in the eye.
Lens - The lens focuses the light to the retina
Retina - It converts the light to an electrical impules
Optic nerve - It passes the electrocal impules to the brain.
Humorous - The liquid thing inside the eye that makes the shape of the eye.

We were all in a groups ( as always) and I teamed up with my friends; Faye and Denise. Each of us have done different things. Denise took the photos since she was new to this, and Faye did a little bit of cutting the eye in half. Then I did the rest. First step we did was cut around the cornea. It was quite hard to poke it at first since we were trying to be careful not to let the liquid inside (which is the Humorous) splurt out. Other than poking it to cut it around, cutting around was not hard but it was a little bit difficult. After cutting the cornea and taking it off the part, we poured out the left Humorous that didn't get out of the eye when we were cutting it. Inside you can see this small slimy, wiggily yellow transparent liquid with the lens sticking on to it. After all of the looking I started to cut the rest in half and saw half of it covered in this amazing combination of colours (Not quite rainbow but you get what I mean) while the reast of it is all black. From what I've learned, those coloured part is actually what gives some night vision for the animals when it's night time. I don't really remember what the other thing it's for so I'm sorry about that but moving on.. After all of those we are done! We took some photos while on it.
What I really enjoyed about this dissection is that we get to learn what was inside the eye and what it actually look like inside.
That thing I found really interesting is that while we were cutting the cornea, it was really hard to cut through. That is because I thought that the cornea was gonna be really soft where to the point it's really easy to cut through.
I learned so many things by just dissecting a single cow eye. One thing is that inside the eye there are different kind of colours which I found really cool! I can't really think of anything else but yes that's what I learned!
What I actually didn't expect was that I thought there was gonna be blood inside but it turned out it was just Humorous was in there as a liquid.
Thanks for reading people!
Great work Kristille, I am glad you got into the dissection! The eye is so interesting. You have explained all the parts we learnt about in class, and even the tapetum lucidum which is the colourful part you talked about. You were correct it is for night vision, which means that humans don't actually have it in our eyes. Did you know that the word for that shiny rainbow colour is iridescent?
