Hunt for the Winderpeople Review

 Hunt for the Wilderpeople Review

This film was released on the 31 of March 2016 all around NZ, but it was normally premiered on January 22, 2016 at the Sundance Film Festival. The characters in the film were Bella, Hec, Ricky, Paula, Psycho Sam, Kahu, Tk and many more. The main characters were mainly Hec and Ricky.

There once a kid named Ricky. He doesn’t really have a home that he can go and settle in. Ricky was a troublesome child who would always break the rules doing illegal things like vandalizing, street painting, stealing and  more . One day he was adopted by Bella who was also abandoned and no home to return to before in the countryside. Bella also has a husband named Hec who didn’t really want to adopt Ricky in the first place, however Bella was a nice person and decided to adopt Ricky since she doesn’t want other people feeling they're alone without a settled family and home.

Once Ricky finally settled in, a terrible accident happened. Bella died without us knowing the reason and that caused a lot of trouble. The child welfare shared the news to the uncle (Hec) that he will be going back again to the orphanage. Ricky didn’t like that, he thought that when he was just about to settle in, in one comfortable place and now they are taking him away again. Ricky decided to run away and faked his death that failed terribly.

Ricky went into the bushes where Hec found him and they started to argue with each other which caused Hec to sprain his ankle.  Ricky wasn’t really helpful too. They settled in one place so that Hec’s sprained ankle won’t hurt or slow them down.  Once they started to get back into walking. Hec taught him some ways to use the gun but it wasn’t really that helpful.

On their way into the bushes they found a house and went inside it, however while they were inside trying to cook and find food, three men came into the house clamming that house is theirs, This caused a lot of trouble since they were wanted, Ricky said some stuff that made it sound so wrong even though that was not he meant so those three guys thought Hec was a perverted pedophile guy that who is with Ricky.

They got away from them however the people who were trying to find them found their location and now, they’re not just on the run but also trying to hide from them in the bushes and while on it they found a nice guy who is kind of weird but helped them hind for the meantime and while they were hiding Ricky kind of wondered off around the bushes and found a cabin and found a guy with a half dead guy on its bed. I forgot to mention he was also with Hec. Anyways they were searching for food when they found the half dead guy and tried finding a person who can help them to bring the guy to an hospital. Ricky found a girl and asked her for help but ended up staying in that girls house for the night. When he got back he realized that the police know where they are and the guy who helped them to find a place even helped them use the car to get away from the police and the child welfare.  While they were on the run with the car, they got into an open space where the police can surround them and helicopters can see them clearly. Right now you won’t believe what I will say but it was Ricky who was driving the car instead of Hec because Hec doesn’t know how to drive a car! Even though they’ve got a car they still kind of didn’t manage to escape all the and got captured at the very end.

However after all of those chaotic event that have happened, Ricky found a nice loving home he can come home to and Hec also got out of the prison and Ricky and Hec finally warmed up with each other they also started to wander around in the bushes again to find some evidence that a Huia birds are not yet extinct.

I really enjoyed watching it because at first it looked really boring but while it was on going everything is starting to get exciting and more intense and stuff like that! Taika Waititi really did a great job making this wonderful film or movie we have watched because you can feel so many emotions along with the characters in the film when they’re acting!

If I would recommend this to someone, I would recommend it to my dad since he has been really into watching movies these days and I think he would like this one just like how I liked watching it! 10/10 if I would rate this movie.

Cultural Inquiry - wga

Hello people! Today I will be blogging about the Cultural inquiry we did this week and the last few weeks that already have passed.

I will be sharing you guy the document I have made about the Masskara Festival.

Masskara festival

At first MassKara Festival started at a time of crisis and disaster in the 1980s. The World Market prices for sugar, the province's monocrop, and main source of livelihood went drastically down. Because of these, two artists thought of promoting mask making as an alternative source of income for the locals. This mask represent the one of the main festival we have in the Philippines and the province of the Negros accidental, bacolod city. It is a really fun festival that happens in bacolod. Masskara Festival was invented in Negros occidental, Bacolod city in Philippines country side. This year's Masskara Festival starts at oct. 8-27. It’s like the day of my birthday and Faye’s Birthday; My birthday is on Oct 27 and Faye’s is Oct 9 so basically it's the day of our birthday.  Many people gather in one place and spread around where they can see all of the things going around on the parade. They all stand on the side of the road where all of them can see all the performances. People who are doing the performances, dances and more all have different unique designs of masks covering their faces. For what I have seen personally I think people often include the design of our country flag and those are for example; The colour/color of our flag; red, white, blue and yellow, the sun that represents liberty and its eight rays represent the first eight provinces that revolted against Spain, The three stars that represents the three main big islands in the philippines; Luzon, Visayas and mindanao. The masskara festival is in Visayas where negros occidental is located.

Just like what I did in my mask, it represents our country flag with the yellow, blue and red colour with it, also the 8 rays of the sun on the side along with it!

Also you might be wondering why there's two of it. Well the answer is the other one kind of broke on the mouth side and I can’t really fix it since it's already dried so I decided to do a  paper version of it.

I also did really well on our cutural Inquiry, except for the one that I made out of clay kind of broke at the mouth part.. But good thing my mum forced me to do the paper version of it just in case it brakes. I also really enjoyed making the clay version since you have to make the shapes and stuff around it! Te be honest I should have done a smaller version so I can add more stuff in it but it's already done so I guess it was just fine.

I will be sharing you guys the doc we used to plan it our and the questions and stuff are in there.

Question

Answer

What is your culture? (Māori, Pākeha, Filipino, Samoan…)

Filipino

What is the ‘cultural practice’ you are interested in?

(Eg. Art, Language, Music, Kiwiana, Kapa Haka...)

art+Festival since I will be doing a little bit of painting and crafting with the mask

What is your inquiry question?

(Eg. What is the traditional costume worn by women in Kapa Haka?)

What is the traditional mask people wear in the masskara festival?

What object (artifact) do you want to create, perform, record?

(Eg. I will make a tipare/headband)

I will be making a mask because that is what the main point of the masskara festival is having a mask covering their faces.

What materials will I use?

This is the link to the plan I made last week.

I have some stuff like hot glue gun and glue stick so maybe i might just bring that, I might also buy the stickers i might need to add more life into it.

Materials and stuff

If you people are confused, basically Masskara is a mask in english so basically masskara is a tagalog version of mask.

Just like what it said in there, I made a mask that not only represent our province mask but also represent our country flag!

Here's the picture of the masskara I made.

This one is the clay mask.
And this one is with the paper version.

That's all for my blog today! Thanks for reading

ESOL - Unexpected reading

Today We came to our last subject of the day. ESOL. As we came in the classroom where we are gonna be learning, our ESOL teacher started reading as we all quiet down and listened to her without knowing what was happening nor' what the tittle of the of the book she was reading, she never told us that she was about to read the book so we we're all kind of confused and just listened as she started reading the story.

As we listened to her reading the book, we all have noticed that the book was about a boy, Noah who is the main protagonist and the narrator of the story. As the story goes on we also noticed that Noah was talking about his life and his family starting from how his parents met to how their life goes on till the present he was in right now. I can you all a little bit of a recap of the story that our teacher read to us. It all started when his father met his mother at a bakery. I don’t really know much of what his father said about his mother but I do know that he said that his mother was cute at the end. Overall Noah said that before him and his siblings were even born, both of their parents really loved traveling even if they didn’t really have enough money, they also went back to kenya five times and including how his dad wanted to be a photographer at the age of 13. Noah was the eldest among the siblings, there are 3 of them and they’re all guys.

Based on the quote that was given to us, “I guess we all kinda knew that our life was perfect and that we wouldn’t change a thing. But sometimes you don’t get that choice, do you? Sometimes stuff happens that you would try to do anything to avoid. But you can’t and that’s what happened to us”  My prediction on what will happen next is that, there will be a new challenge coming upon them that is just right ahead waiting that they can’t expect.

SEXXXY Paragraph 3 - Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Hello people! Today I am back with the SEXXXY Paragraph we have been doing, however this time it's another paragraph but with the same film but different topic. I will be showing you guys what I have done for that paragraph. Actually before sharing you guys the paragraph I have made, some might didn't looked in the slide I have shared in my blog yesterday so I decided I will be explaining it to you guys what SEXXXY means since that one that I will be sharing to you guys might be highlighted.

SEXXXY

This is the chart that was given to us in our slide to give us an idea on what we will be including in our blog.

Anyways since that is now done I will be sharing you guys the doc now.

Name: Kristille ann

Choose 1 of the photos to write about. Delete the other one

Techniques you can talk about:

Colour, Lighting, Camera Angles/Shots, Music, Characters, Settings

Write your paragraph below. Make sure you reference the SEXXXY colour coded template to help you include ALL the necessary parts of your paragraph. At the end, highlight your work.

Idea: more cold, blue, red, white, camera angle; mid shot, music; intense, characters; Hec and Ricky, settings; frozen cold forest/bushes.

This topic is about what is happening in this scene, the camera angle in that scene, the music, the characters and the setting that are shown in the picture itself nothing more nothing less.

For me I think is this scene of the movie, Ricky and Hec were hiding from the cops, still on the run

since by that time the police and the child welfare team found where they were hiding. However

they still managed to escape from them but it was only for the time and didn’t last long since

helicopters up in the sky are also following where they hide or where they go.

This makes the audience feel intense because in this scene (I think) they were hiding from the cops

and the child welfare who are trying to capture them and put Hec to jail and bring Ricky back to the orphanage(?), which Ricky didn’t want. The audience who's watching the film feel bad for Ricky

because they can feel that if Ricky goes back to the Orphanage(?) he wouldn’t have his freedom

that he never had before.

The director included this because they wanted to make the viewers feel different kinds of emotions considering what’s happening in the scenes of the film. It gave many people different kinds of

emotions depending on what was happening on the scene, whether they’re excited, nervous,

suspense and  many more.

I think some shots that made this scene amazing and put more emotion into it are the close up shot,

mid shot, point of view shot, two shots and finally the long shot. These shots I mentioned are also

included in the scene along with the picture example that are given at the top.

In conclusion, this paragraph has made many points on what is happening in the film just based on

the picture that was given to us. Over all this scene drove many emotions to other people just like

what I mention of the second yellow highlighted sentence who are watching this film other than us.

It's quite big so I'm sorry about that but, Thank you for reading! hope you enjoyed!

Hunt for the Wilderpeople - SEXXXY Paragraph

Hello people! today I will be blogging about today's lesson at hurumanu 1, SEXXXY Paragraph.

At the end I will be showing you the silde we have worked on to make this SEXXXY Paragraph, but before that  I will be sharing you what I have learned this term in this hurumanu.

This term we have been focusing on the film "The hunt for the Wilderpeople" after finishing the movie we have been doing a lot of writing and investigating about this film starting from the director to the camera angles and finally some essays. I can share you guys some of it to but i'll be after the slide of the SEXXY paragraph.

This has help improve my writing a lot because it also helped me on how I should start a paragraph/essay etc. and what kind of stuff i should add in it depending on the topic. It also kind of helped me with some of the grammar but not completely. I also really like the topic we're working on so that is probably one of the reasons why I also did a lot of writing too.

My favorite part of the film study was learning about different kind of camera shot or angle that people/directors/makers of the movie use to make it more realistic and suspense and add more emotion into to it.  I also really like writing about the people that are included in the film because I feel like I get to know them more even though they're just a character in the movie.

And that's all I will now be sharing you guys what we have done.

This is also the one I have writen in the slide but it might a little bit small soo.. here we go!

"This paragraph is going to be mainly about the main protagonist Ricky and how he changes over time in the film.

Before even bella adopted Ricky, He doesn’t really have a home that he can go and settle in. Ricky was a troublesome child who would always break the rules doing illegal things like vandalizing, street painting, stealing and many more. But ever since Bella adopted Ricky, he finally released this personality of him being a little bit more like a kid at his age.

Ever since bella died him and Hec went onto the bushes and Ricky gained a lot of confidence on how he use to have and on the run away from the child welfare and Hec running away from the police because they suspect Hec a pervert little pedophile old man.

Seeing this in the film makes the audience feel bad for Ricky because of how he doesn’t really have a family and how Ricky doesn’t have someone to to go home to but also happy at the same time because of how Ricky finally found a home where he can settled in and a wonderful friend he can wander around with in the bushes/woods.

The director included this so that people or the audience can use Ricky as an example that people can change over time and that even people that don’t have a home will someday will find a nice, settled home they can rest, go home and relax on.

Nearly at the end of the film there is one film where Ricky was finally smiling and having a good time since he finally found his home he can go back to and that he can go anywhere freely without him breaking the law and having his own freedom that he never had from the start. The scene where it shows where he was smiling the camera angle was in a close up shot so you can see some of his movements and posture, you can also see his whole face really clear and you can tell that he really changed by that time of the film."

I think I've already blogged about this(no so sure) but I just want to share it again because this is also one of the task relating to this topic.

In the introduction of the Hunt for The Wilderpeople, the two characters Ricky and Hec didn’t really get along well with each other and don’t have a good relationship. Before they even both meet each other Ricky was from a foster home and doesn’t really have his own home he can go to. When Ricky and Hec meet with each other they already know that they won’t get along well. Hec doesn’t really want him to be in his life or even let Ricky call him “uncle” in the first place.  This can explain a lot that they won’t get along very well for the next couple of chaotic events that will happen in the future. People/viewers can even tell that they really need to get along with each other so that if won’t cause a lot of problems. However they didn’t until the end of the movie. For Hec he should really start to open up with other people so that he knows how to connect with others and build up positive relationships with other people.  For some reasons I think that Hec kind of changed after he got out of the prison and became kind of more open by the time pass by, and him and Ricky also got along very well by that period of time. By the end of the film they started to build connections and they also started to get along with each other very well, meaning their relationship has improved. However that took a lot of process and time for that to happen between the both of them.

That's all I will be blogging today! thank you for reading!
