Summary of chap 1-5 of the Cay

I don't really remember much but I will be writing the things that I can remember on each chapter.. But I also looked for some because I barely remember anything..

Chp 1

The narrator intruduces a boy called Phillip. Phillip lives with his mom and dad at Wellimstad at Curacao. One day Phillip woke up in such an exciting event. War started, but it was not in their part of the city, it was near them. Phillips mother warned him about not going outside because it was dangerous..But he went out anyways, as he went out he met with his friend Henrik to see what is outside. They went to the places where they used to go, and to their surprise it wasn't as same as before! There were people who told them to go away and get back to their houses but both of them went down to the famous Queen Emma pontoon bridge instead.. After few minutes of talking some people told them to go back home and they did..As Phillip got home his mother who was standing in the kitchen immediately asked him where he went and he replied that he was with his friend Henrik.

Chp 2

As the war goes on Phillips mother thinks that it was not safe to stay there anymore and suggesting that they should go back to Norfolk..Phillip heard his mom and dad fighting about the idea of leaving Curacao and going back to Norfolk. One day both if his parents finally agreed to idea of leaving Curacao back to Norfolk. Phillip didn't really like the idea that much but he had no choice. he went to his last day of school saying bye to his friends and packed his things after at night. Him and his mom went to the boat saying their goodbye to his father as they went off.

Chp 3

Once they were on the ship something terrible had happened. Him and his mother went where the life boats were with their life vest on. Other than them other people were also there and the captain and some crew were there to help people get into a life boat. Him and his mother got into one but something had happened that cannot be explaned. He passed out and could not remember anything after what happened when they got hit by something. After 4 hours have passed he woke up in a small raft. There, there was an old black man sitting beside him. That's the moment he met Timothy. He don't know where he is and he also don't know where his mother and the other poeple went. Phillip was quite unsure if he should trust Timothy or not..But since Timothy is the only person beside him now he had no choice. Other than that he also met a black cat, his name was stew cat. Timothy believes that black cats bring bad luck.. By the time pass by Phillip began to feel hungry.. Timothy gave him a little bit of water because he was thirsty but it was not enough for him..Timothy took the cap back and closed the bottle. Phillip got the wrong idea and said that Timothy was keeping the water to himslef. Timothy replied that its better to save up the water and save the cookies. By noon Timothy catched some fish and started to eat them raw.

Chp 4

Phillip and Timothy are still in the middle of the sea not knowing where to go.. Phillip started ask Timothy about where he came from and started talking a little bit more about each other. Phillip started to get to know Timothy a little bit. He had found out the Timothy was an orphan and didn't have any parents..All Timothy know is that he had someone named Hanah Gumbs that took care of him.Phillip also talked about what they have in Curacao. The next day Timothy said to Phillip that there might be a schooner that might pass but they wern't quite sure. Phillip took a glance of the sun, Phillip saw a haze so he rubbed his eyes and opened them again but the haze was still there. He went back inside the shelter and closed his eyes.. Timothy took a small cloth and wet it with cold water, he put it on top of Phillips eyes and said that he already had warned him about it. His head was in pain. After a few hours the pain started to wore off. He took off the cloth in his eyes but it was dark. He thought it was nightime by the time he woke up because it was pitch black dark. He asked Timothy what time it was and asnwered 10..Phillip asked if 10 at night but Timothy said 10 early in the morning. That's when Phillip realized he was blind..

Cpt 5

In this chapter Timothy and Phillip heard an air craft flying up in the sky..Phillip tought that they were looking for them. Timothy made a torch to make a fire signal but sadly it didn't quite reach it and saw the fire so the air craft just kept going on with its journey off somewhere. They tought that would be a chance of recue but the pilot of that air craft seemed to didn't notice them so it was a faulse hope for them..

Well that is all that I can remember..Anyways thanks for reading my blog!

Langosta

Langosta are about 60 cm in length and they have a flat back with many different patterns on them.. If you cook a langosta its color turns red and those patterns they use to have will disappear! Langosta also means spiny lobster. Other than that, as you can tell langosta are quite meaty on the inside and oviously as you can also tell it has a hard thick skin shell! Each corner of it is tasty on each bite! Langosta have a habitat in coral reefs where they hide during the day..It's quite hard to find one, but if you at least found one on a Cay consider your self as lucky..

Caribbean Spiny Lobster

Cay - English

This Uninhabited Island Off of Massachusetts Is Littered With Bombs | Travel | Smithsonian Magazine

A Cay is a small island above on a surfice of a coral reef..

You might think living on a cay is nice and peicefull however, living on a Cay is quite hard and challenging especially if you are stranded on one.

If you are stranded on a Cay, you have to make a sorts of things for survival..For example tools for cathing food; such as fish, lobster, or even wild animals of there are any.. Also tools for self defence just incase if there are any wild dangerous animals living around on the Cay.. Other than tools of course you also need a shelter from the hot sun and the rain, specially for the night. You also need to find fresh water cause you don't wanna drink saltwater. Saltwater is not very clean it self.. There many things you need to do to survive on a stranded island. You might also need to prepare for the upcoming weather because an unpredictable storm might hit the island and you have to prepare for that.. You are also might not be sure if it's safe in that Cay! So it is quite scary to live on a Cay specially if your alone..

Social Justice writing - Social studies

Hello people! Todays blog is my first blog I did this lockdown.. This blog is about Social Justice and a little bit of some writing about it..

-Intro-

In our social justice hurumanu, we have learned about things related to social justice and human rights. And right now we have hw/homeworks to do for social studies because of the lockdown. This is a writing assignment where we pick three topics from what we have done from the last two terms, and each write three paragraphs of what kind of prejudice they face, what they want us to know, and what do I think about it. Then lastly a conclusion of what the main point of this whole paragraph is.

Social Justice

The 3 Communities I picked to write about-

-#StopAsianHate

-Same Love <3

-Young people with disabilities

What kind of prejudice do they face?kkk

What do they want us to know? kkk

What do you think? kkk

1st - #StopAsianHate

ooooAsian people have faced many stereotypical acts like for example “Asian people are either Chinese, Japanese or Korean” or “All Asian speak ching chang chong '' or whatever.. This year many people hated Asian people because of Covid-19.. Many think that Covid started from China and think that Covid came from bats and Chinese people eat bats.. Many also think that Asian people have fair looking skin and that they are also really smart at what they do, especially maths..

ooooNot all Asians are the same.. Not all Asians are good looking. Not all of us have fair skin, beautiful face and great body..Not all of us are smart at what we do ESPECIALLY maths.. Not all of us speak “Ching chang chong '' . All of us came from different kinds of countries with our own special language. Not all are Chinese or Japanese or Korean, We also come from different countries and specially different cultures. Make sure to find out where they are from before even accusing wrong assumptions of who they are.

ooo I think that we should really think about what we should say to other people first whether it's offensive or not. Not all Asians are the same..Us Asians are not all the same with fair skin, clear face, skinny, handsome face or pretty face and smart. All Asian people have their own unique appearance, talents, and hobbies.

2nd - Same Love

mmmThe Lgbtq+ community has faced many hates from people for the past few years. Many people hate the fact that love someone from the same sex is right and they think it’s wrong till to this day. They have also faced stereotipical acts such as “that If a guy likes pink they’re gay” or “if a girl likes to wear guy clothes they’re lesbian or a tomboy..” Many poeple are disgusted to people in this community just because they love someone from the same sex or whatever..

mmmWe should accept people for who they love even if they are the same sex or gender..It doesn’t matter if they have the same sex all it matter is that they both love each other. Not all gay people wear pink and not lesbian people wear guy clothes or something like that. Not everyone part of the lgbtq+ are gay there are more to that, for example. Queer, Transgender, Asexual, Bi and many more.

mmmI think that we all should accept the fact that everyone is different in their own way. We should accept who others love and trust, what they look like, what they wanna be and things like that. It doesn’t matter if you love the same sex as you, as long as you trust and love them and so that person. Always be with them and don’t mind what other people think. Love who you wanna love and trust.

3rd - Young people with disabilities

mmmThere are many children/teens/adults nowaday with disabilities and many of them experience unwanted attention.. There are some scenarios where people with disabilities go to public places and some people do unnecessary actions that are not needed.. For example a blind person walking alone and peacefully then someone just grabs their shoulder without permission and just starts to pull them without even thinking if this person really needed help or not in the first place.

mmmWe need to shift the way we think. Not all disabled people can't do something that you might think they can't do. Not all blind people can’t walk around, they still have their feet. Not all people with no legs can’t go on their own outside and wander around just because they have no legs. They still have a wheelchair that they use to go around outside and their wheelchair has those big wheels where they use to move around.

mmmI think that we should not underestimate people with disabilities and that we should make sure to think before you act. Ask them if they need help if you can see that they’re in need of help. Make sure that they are aware that you are helping them and don’t just act rashly. If you see a disabled person and they don’t need help, just let them be and they can get on with their lives peicefuly.

Conclusion.

Think before you act and that we should always accept people for who they are whether they’re from a different country/culture, black, white, brown etc., different gender or sex, disabled or not. Let’s always make sure to remember that everyone has their own ways of expressing themselves, different hobbies, talents and many more. Accept one another.

That is all for my blog today! Hope you learned something new and hope you enjoyed reading it! :)

Foods - cooking

hello poeple! Today I will be blogging about a new blogpost about foods.. Last week we had food practicle meaning we had to bring a food taperware to put food on..

Here are some pictures of what we have done that day and the ingredients we used..

At first me and my freind chopped the ingredients in needed sizes. I chopped the chicken while Faye chopped the vegetables. After I finished doing the chicken and adding sause into it, I helped faye with chopping the vegetables and seperating them. After doing all those stuff I started cooking the chicken and onions for 5 minutes. After that 5 minutes i started another pan and started boiling the noodles and also added the rest of the vegetables. Me and Faye kept switching places on doing the mixing till it was finished.

Me and Faye tasted it and both of us really liked it.. But for me espesially I really liked it because it has sweet and spicy flavour in it also with a little bit taste of soi sauce.

Well that's all for my blog today! Thanks for reading!

Calypso - English

Hello poeple! Today I will be blogging about another Do Now activity..

Today's topic will be about Calypso.

A Calypso is a Afro-Caribbean music that originated in Trinidad and Tabago during the early mid-19th century and spread to the rest of the Caribbean Antilles and Venezuela by the mid-20th century.

We were given this one music to listen at and were told to write a paragrah about what we imagine while listening to the song..

I have't really listened to all of it since I don't really have headphones..However To what I have imagined after listining a few of it, I can see nice clear beaches where there's no people in. Clear light blue sky where birds fly high and a beautiful sunset...

That's all that I can imagine from listening to the song.

Now we were also told to do a metaphor or simile to explain someone's voice..

My one will be made up so heres mine..

Me and my family went to a party where people are dancing, singing etc. We went to the people who was singing and watching along..We saw a girl singing infront drunk and I couldn't help my self but luagh because she sounded like a pig screaming...

Well that's all for my blog today! Thanks for reading! (hopefully I got these right..)

Pontoon Bridge - English - The cay

Today I will be blogging about another To Do Now activity from english..

The topic will be about Pantoon Bridge and Why were these bridge created, how are they bulit and how are they reusable?

I already mentioned the three questions that we were suppose to answer and here are my asnwers!

For the first question: Why were these bridges created?

These bridges were created to support continious deck for pedestrian and for vihecle traveling. It was also used in the wartime for civil emergencies. It has also been used many times and had great advantages during wartimes.

It was formed by using lashing several barrels together and by rafts of timbers or by using boats.

I'm not really sure how to answer the last question since we can't really watch the video that was in the slide that was given to us and we cannot really find the correct answer on google either.. However from the video I have seen from researching them I think they are reusable because they use these specific boats that can help make it and it can also be a normal boat. And by that they uses these boats to make the bridge happen everytime they need it, eg. incase of emergencies.

Well that's all for my blog today! Thanks for reading!

Discrimination against minority groups NZ- NZ Prejudice (Pre-Judge) - Social Studies

Hello people! Today I will be blogging about the work we have been working on this term. Our theme were Discrimination against minority groups NZ. We were given short statements about different topics and those were, Zeinab’s Writing, #StopAsianHate 2021 - Simu Liu ,Same Love by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Young people with disabilities and Dawn Raids.

This week we were focused on Dawn Raids. The dawn raids is about the chaos that happened many years ago. Just a few weeks go the president of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, posted a post on Facebook stating that she wanted to appolozise to the pacificans on behalf on what happened years ago, the dawn raids. Because of the dawn raids, many pacificans were kicked out of the country and it caused many families to downfall and lost of jobs.

Jacinda also participated in the ifoga which is a Samoan custom they have. If you don't know what an Ifoga is, An ifoga is where you were covered in this large mat(?) as an apology. You apologies to whatever you did and once you're forgiven the large mat will be taken off you by the samoan people themselves..However if you are not forgiven you have to take it off yourself..

Well that's all for my blog today! Thanks for reading! Hopefully you learned something new today!

Wga - Envy

Hello people! Today I will be blogging about the Envy doc that our teacher set up for us to complete..

We were reading about what envy is and we were given this questions of who we envy and write why/what we envy them for..

Name* of someone you envy: I envy three of my friends..

What I envy them for is…

I envy them for having their own rooms and their own freedom on gadgets.. Their parents don’t usually go to their phones..

After a good think to yourself: What is the really appealing thing here? (Not the obvious thing but what might be lying behind it).

I'm not really sure what to write here because I don't really have anything in mind yet...

How can I get more of this in my life?

I think all I can do for now is be patient till we have our own house either here or my home country (Philippines) . And probably by that time I would have a job and I would be able to buy anything I want.

To Do Now - U-boats

Hello people! Today I will be blogging about 'The Cay' book that we are about to read today. It is related to the U-boats and WWII.

We were told to find three facts and one resource video that we can find and share it with you guys!

Three facts that I found.

The U-boats were germany's only weapon of advantage for World war 2.

The U-boats were famous for it hunting targets in a groups known as the "Wolf Packs"

The U-boats were at their numerous and advantage during the WWII.

The Video that I found that have many info in.

This is the first video I saw on youtube however it is a very short yet informative video that I have found! It won't be a waste of time watching it since it is only 2 minutes short and there are many facts along with pictures or videos giving example of what those things they are talking about!

Well that's all for my blog today people! Thanks for reading and I hope you learned something new today!

Friends - Wga

Hello people! Today I will be blogging about the article that we read in wga this morning. We were given three questions related to this.

The questions are:

 What is taha whanau?

Why are 'Good Friend' relationship so important?

Why is respect so important for all (Not just friends) of our relationship?

The answer to the first one is, Taha whanau is it's either your family members or someone your close with in your life. Like for example your friends, colleagues and people from other community that you care off.

In my opinion is that Good friend is important because having good friends meaning you can trust them with anything, you can share whatever it is with each other, you support and respect each others bounderies, privacy, personal life, choices and such as that.

Respect is something that we all want so in order to receive that kind of respect you need to give some of it to other people. We we're all thought that when what you give, is what you get.

That's all for my blog today people! Thanks for reading.

ESOL - The Trolley

Hello poeple! Today I will be blogging about what we have been doing this term. yesterday we read this short story about a mother who can't afford to buy gifts for her kids so she decided to make one herself instead.

She got the idea of making a trolley from a little pram.. She took the wheels from it and took some board and some short pieces of wood that she already have and put them all together. She also found a toybox and found an old skipping rope that we used to pull the trolley around with. The next day after her kids went to school she bought a bolt and a few staples and nails. On the Christmas even she decided to go to her neighbours and borrowed a drill and a saw. She spent most of her time making the trolley and didn't even get to sleep because she was busy making the trolley for the whole night. The next day she nervous because she didn't know if her kids will like it or not. But for her suprise her kids just brush off and went outside with the trolley in their pajamas. And she was really grateful for the fact that her kids liked her present she made for them.

Besides that we were also given a task to finish this document about The Trolley book we have read.

  1. Answer the following content questions (write the answers below each question in a different colour.)

    1. What was the mother’s name?

Tania

  1. What were the names of her kids?

Hoani and Miria

  1. Why did she make them a trolley?

Because she couldn’t afford to buy them expensive gifts or just gifts in general.

  1. What was her anxiety about? Why was she so anxious about that?

She was anxious about the fact that her kids wouldn’t like the gift she made her. And the fact that they might get jealous to ither kids who probably got bikes or something like that.

  1. How did the children react to the gift?

The kids just straight up went out of the house and jumped on the trolley so that they could play with it.

  1. What does this teach us?

It teaches us that we should be grateful for what we have no matter how big or small the gift is. All that we should always remember is that our parent’s made efforts to make or buy that gift that you received from them.

We were also asked to write a diary account about the christmas trolley from the point of view of one of the children (Hoani / Miria)

So here's mine:

“Today is finally Christmas! Me and my brother got up early this morning to see what we got. We went downstairs to see our mom waiting for us and my brother and I got curious. We approached her and once we got close she told us that there’s a present behind the steps. We looked behind it to find something amazing. Me and my brother took the trolley and went outside as fast as we could to play with it, not noticing our mom yelling at us not to go out with our pajamas on. We we’re not bothered about the fact that the other kids got expensive or big gifts. We we’re enjoying ourselves and other kids seemed to like the present we got too! They wanted to try it out themselves and ofcourse we let them play with it too! Other people also complimented the present we got! Once we got the trolley back we asked our mom who looked worried and relieved at the same time to also play with us on the trolley..! And that’s how our Christmas went! It is the best Christmas ever!!”

Well that is all for my blog today people! Thanks for reading!
